STAYING YOUNG AT HEALTH & HEART
Staying young is an approach to beat the onset of ageing. To stay young and vibrant forever, one needs to obey a few principles. We may already know these principles, but to implement them is the trick is to induce a general feeling of youthfulness in yourself. Staying young is an aspect that covers three domains, the physical aspect, the mental aspect and the emotional aspect. One should be able to look young, feel young and behave young.

LOOK YOUNG
This is a very general approach towards capturing youth. Almost everyone tries to ‘look young’ though they would not admit it. By looking young, let us stick to a very overt definition of young. It refers to the mannerisms and the attire that one may choose. Some gesticulations and facial expressions are associated with old age.

You may wish to avoid a typical old person’s style of talking or walking. However, you must realize that the physical posture alters due to the weakening of one’s body. To retard the process of weakening of bodily functions, it is essential to keep the body fit and fine. When one approaches old age, one may feel it customary to dress up in a particular manner. However, if you look younger than what you actually are, why not consider dressing up in your favorite dress of yesteryear?

FEEL YOUNG
This is a very tricky aspect of the ‘staying young’ part. Feeling is an internal state of being, and thus, it takes time to get aligned. Researchers have been stressing on the importance of ‘young thoughts’ as the solution to retarding the onset of age.

For example, if an elderly person feels that he or she can participate in activities, which require physical exertion, the chances of being successful in such an attempt are surprisingly quite high. Therefore, staying young is really a process that starts in the brain and then ‘spreads’ to the other areas of the body.

THINK YOUNG
The thought process often makes a huge impact on the quality of mind and body. It has been observed that the senior citizens are infamously negative thinkers; and they are capable of spreading this habit amongst their counterparts.
Remaining positive especially in the face of an illness is difficult, but this is where one’s mind needs to be ‘taught’ to stay young. It is vital to tell oneself that ‘all is well’. In fact, one of the tricks to staying healthy is to chant something like ‘day by day, everyday, I am getting better and better’! This may sound funny, but such ‘chants’ can work wonders and help one think like a youngster.

Stop Your Divorce and Save Your Marriage!

Introduction

If you saw the emotional turmoil portrayed in the movies War of the Roses and Kramer vs. Kramer, you’d probably think twice about divorce. Unhappy individuals who believe that ending their marriage would make them happier are often living a myth.

Chances are that they’ve attributed the failure of the marriage to their spouse, dispensing with self-examination. Blaming the other instead of oneself becomes the favorite pastime, the most convenient means to walk away.

By failing to accept their own frailties, and not realizing that they’ve entered the marriage with unreasonable demands and unrealistic expectations, they unconsciously released the forces leading to a potential separation.

There’s also the phenomenon of short memories. For some reason, the same individuals who vowed to support each other during their time of wedded bliss have forgotten their commitment and vows to love each other through thick and thin.

Our modern society has indeed become a disposable society. This is what Alvin Toffler had predicted almost two decades ago. This state of “disposableness” is reflected in our ability to DELETE and PURGE and SHRED what we no longer need.

And when our once beloved partner is no longer of use to us, we call our lawyer and instruct him/her to initiate divorce proceedings.

Funny, but despite its harrowing and complex web, divorce has also become just a phone call away, a “to go” solution that we can pick up on the way to cleaner’s.

Truth is, is that divorce has an ugly side to it. It’s the easy way out for people who have not an ounce of courage to salvage what deserves to be salvaged.

Snoring is No Laughing Matter

As innocent children armed with our trusty toolbox of crayons and markers, we often depicted a snoring person as someone lying in bed with a series of “Z’s” casually emerging from a peacefully sleeping body.

However, what we neglected to draw – and again, rather innocently – was the severe underlying damage that was occurring in that ordinary picture.

The Damage is Far-Reaching

Damage to whom? Well, damage to at least one person, and potentially many more. Primarily, snoring has the very real potential of causing health damage to the snorer him or herself.

This damage can range from relatively mild sleep disturbances, to outright fatal Sleep Apnea (described further in this article). Indeed, when looked at under this light, those innocent Z’s in our childhood drawings don’t seem quite so harmless, anymore.

Yet is that where the suffering ends — with the snorer? Hardly; and this is where the dilemma of snoring – and it is indeed a dilemma – takes on an added hue of suffering and misery.

When it comes to stretch marks, we all get them sooner or later. Most people assume that only heavy people or pregnant women get them. That isn’t even close to the truth. Basically, age and weight fluctuations play a very large role in who is going to get stretch marks and who isn’t.

There are many different ways to deal with them that modern technology has come up with. You can have them taken out with a laser, but it can be very costly; leave you with scars, or even change the color of your skin all together.

There is also the effort of having your skin peeled repeatedly which can be painful as well as expensive. Even a little bit of cosmetic surgery claims to help you out with this unsightly problem. The only problem with these methods is that they are not guaranteed to even work.

These ways to deal with stretch marks may all serve their own purposes; however, there are safer and less stressful ways that you can do it. There are natural ways of dealing with stretch marks. That is what this guide is about. This is going to be your comprehensive guide to getting rid of those nasty stretch marks the natural way.

FACT: Headaches Affect Nearly 90% of Men and 95% of Women

All kinds of pains are bad. But there is nothing as mentally exhausting as a headache. It affects our well-being, our productivity and even our social existence. After a headache we feel mentally drained and physically exhausted. But then we come to the interesting question, should a bad headache keep a good man down? To find a solution to this question, it is important that we understand more about headaches.

Headaches are of different types. They can be identified as headaches due to migraine, sinus and tension. Now these headaches are very different but they do affect the same part that is the head in general. So if we understand more about them we can reach an interesting conclusion.

And you know what that is? Headaches are largely preventable. Of course there are a lot of cures available over the counter now but do we really have to wait for the headache to start to resort to treatment? Isn’t prevention better than cure? Isn’t it better to be proactive than reactive?

I have included 101 tips on how to prevent headaches below. But before we go to the tips, it might be useful to have at least a superficial understanding of the different types of headaches.

Anyone that has had a baby, knows that the worst sound that you can hear is them crying. Although everyone knows that all newborns cry and show some fussiness, it is also clear that when a child who is basically healthy cries for more than 3 hours straight during the process of a day, it is more than likely colic that is causing it.

These days it is estimated that up to 25% of all babies have colic. It usually starts between the 3rd and 6th week after they are born, and goes away on its own by the time the baby is somewhere around 3 months old. If the baby is still crying to the extreme after that time, chances are that some sort of health problem may be the problem instead.

There are quite a few facts about colic that you may not realize. These facts are:

Many of us are skin conscious.  We often want our skin to look young and healthy and we really do something just to protect our skin from whatever possible harms there may be in our environment.  Well, our skin is our largest organ performing several functions.  It primarily protects us against the invasion of foreign substances and it serves as the transfer point for the release of toxins from our bodies, thus our skin is just worthy of protection and care.

Now, if you found yourself coveting the gorgeous skin of fashion models and celebrities in most of today’s magazines, here are some tips that will help you on for a beautiful skin.

Tip #1: Drink Water

It is often said that the simplest way to clear and supple skin that is no longer dry is to drink plenty of water.  Water has long been considered as the most effective natural treatment or an almost free treatment for any skin condition because of its being alkaline, with pH 7.3.  It prevents dehydration which is capable of producing sebum or oil from the sebaceous glands.  Your skin needs water in order for it to function best, thus doctors and nutritionists recommend that a daily intake of between 6 to 8 glasses of water per day is highly needed.

Tip #2: Watch Your Diet

Nutrition plays a vital role in skin health too.  Specific foods such as those acidic foods and dairy products are said to be potent in causing an allergic reaction in some people.  Also, one of the widely debated topics in the area of nutrition today is chocolates.   Some say that chocolate does affect the condition of the skin, while others say it doesn’t.  Whatever the result may be, the best recommendation is just to follow a nutritious diet that has a number of fresh fruits and green-leafy veggies, as well as fiber.

Tip #3:  Consider Exfoliants

Many experts say that exfoliating your skin is another great way to attain a beautiful skin.  So, try to invest in a good body exfoliant or “loofah”, as it is commonly called, as it is capable of eliminating the dead skin cells from your body.   Accordingly, this should be done once or twice a week so to free the skin to breathe.   What’s more, exfoliants help to prevent ingrown hair from developing.

However, it is necessary to avoid using any body exfoliant on the skin on the face.   The main reason for this precaution is that the facial tissue is more sensitive and finer than those tissues of the body.

Today, there is a myriad of exfoliating sponges in the market, as well as a number of really good exfoliant gels that are especially formulated for the skin on the face.   Nevertheless, one of the necessary things to note is that those people with skin affected by acne should not apply exfoliating gels or sponges, as these may aggravate the acne infection.   Try to consider those exfoliating products for acne prone skin in the form of a skin peeling treatment instead.  These products are now commonly offered my most salons anywhere in the world.   And, perhaps what is best to consider is to consult a skin specialist before undertaking any form of skin peel.

Introduction

Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cheshire Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to go.

Can People Really Change?

David Lucero knows where he wants to go: He wants to go to El Paso, Texas.

David is about sixty years old, I think. For the last three months, he has been living on a sidewalk across the street from a Greyhound bus station.

I don’t know how long David has been homeless. He is one of America’s walking wounded—mentally ill, unable to take care of himself, unable to cope with the business of life. He is always happy to talk, although you have to repeat yourself a few times before he can understand you: David is losing his hearing.

One day I tried to take him to a shelter for the homeless. All he had to do was get in the pickup truck. He had to make a decision: Get in or stay on the street. The right decision could have started the cycle of healing and change, but it was more than David was capable of doing that morning. He decided to stay on the street, waiting for his imaginary ride to El Paso.

When I meet people like David, I tell myself that Lewis Carroll didn’t make anything up when he wrote Alice in Wonderland. I have met many people who are flesh and blood Cheshire Cats, Mad Hatters, and Queens of Hearts.

I come into contact every day with people whose lives and families have been torn apart by bad habits: people addicted to cigarettes, alcohol, and illegal drugs; over-spenders, overeaters, and chronic worriers; negative thinkers, procrastinators, and people who won’t forgive themselves for something that happened long ago.

I have seen firsthand how bad habits keep ordinary people from living happier and healthier lives. Everywhere you look, people want to know why they are unhappy. And they want to know what they can do about it.

The talk shows offer a constant menu of miracle cures for every type of bad habit imaginable—everything from quick weight-loss programs to 20-minute lessons in positive thinking that promise to cure depression. We are constantly bombarded by programs that promise effortless and immediate results: Lose weight fast, while eating as much as you want! Guaranteed to work! Sure.

We are overwhelmed with solutions today. And the more solutions there are, the harder it is to find one that works. Many people have failed so many times that they’ve almost given up the battle. Others gave up a long time ago.

WHY DO WE BECOME OLD?
Ageing is an unavoidable part of every person’s life. One may be unable to keep away from the signs of ageing, but one can definitely ensure that the process of ageing is delayed as much as possible.
We need to look at reasons as to why one may become old. In the milestone study “Successful Aging,” which was sponsored by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, researchers reached to the conclusion that our genes determine 30 percent of the entire process of aging; the remaining 70 percent is determined by lifestyles.

Age sets in because of what we do every day. This means it is necessary to remain watchful of day-to-day activities that one may be engaged in. New breakthroughs in the world of medicine have created the possibility of remaining young for long.

Scientists are working at developing new ways that makes use of surgery as well as new medications that will ensure such positive developments. Nevertheless, this is a thing of tomorrow and one cannot predict what future has in store for us. Therefore, it remains an important priority to search for ways and means of staying young at body and heart. These ways are usually related with our daily lives and routines. As such, we could categorize the reasons for ageing into three broad features.

The Genetic Theory explains that the human body has a “genetic time clock” that is pre programmed to go off. However, scientists have yet not reached to a conclusion about the exact timing and what explanation could be supplied for the variations in these ‘timings’.

What we know, as a case in the point of discussion is that the children of long-lived parents are also inclined towards leading longer lives. We also know that women outlive men and this is a worldwide phenomenon.

On the other hand, some genes can speed up the death of a human being. In recent times, the National Institutes of Health researchers recognized a gene on chromosome number 10 that may be responsible for the late commencement of Alzheimer’s disease, a state of mental health that robs nearly 4 million elderly Americans of their memory. Thus, this theory propounds that how we age and what age the process of ageing will start is very much related to our genes.

The Free Radical Theory is yet one more theory that tries to explain the process of ageing in a human body. Free radicals, which are formed as a consequent reaction to everyday chemical reactions within the body, are more often than not neutralized by antioxidants before they can do permanent damage to our cells.

Vitamin E and vitamin C are considered as anti oxidants. As we age, our body’s capability to create the enzymes that are responsible for producing these antioxidants weakens considerably. This fact was brought to light by researchers who were studying the process of ageing in a human body. Vitamin C is found in citric fruits and is a water-soluble vitamin while vitamin E may need to be consumed artificially.
Our diet is a key supplier of antioxidants. As age sets in, the amount of food that may be consumed typically reduces. Senior citizens are infamously poor eaters. The outcome is that free radicals in the body begin to run amok. To date, they have been touted as the leading cause for more than 20 age-related diseases to set in.

Some of these diseases are heart diseases, cancer, muscular degeneration and Parkinson’s syndrome. To add insult to injury, these free radicals that are in the process of creating a havoc in the body also attack the collagen and elastin fibers which are essential components of connective tissue that keep our skin elastic and firm. The loss of moisture from skin leads to skin sags and appearance of wrinkles.
The Hormonal Theory holds hormonal activities in our body responsible for triggering the ageing process. Hormones are responsible for a number of changes within the human body.

For example, the onset of menstruation or the beginning of puberty is essentially hormone related features. Menopause, andropause, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases are some of the other conditions that are caused by hormones. The beginning of these conditions is partly triggered by the decrease in the level of hormone production. This state begins at the age of thirty and increases, as we grow older.

Hormones like estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and human growth hormone, assist us to maintain vitality and a healthy level of libido. This contributes to the ‘joys of life’. The levels of hormones found in the older population are significantly less than that found in the younger ones. As a result, the older generation becomes vulnerable to a number of ailments that could otherwise have been avoided by a satisfactory level of hormones. The presence of ailments further speeds up the process of ageing in these older adults.
